Traditional patterns, their stories and histories have inspired my quilting for many years. I enjoy using beautiful reproduction fabrics to create my own version of the old designs. Edyta Sitar, "Pieces of Blue" book.

I purchased the quilt book called Charm School, by Vanessa Goertzen, after seeing this pattern in it. She called the quilt Chandelier. I loved it, so I made it in Spring colors.

Lime Green and turquoise are two of my favorite colors. I saw this quilt at Back Porch Fabrics in Pacific Grove two years ago when I went to Empty Spools. During early "lock down" I wanted something that would take my mind off our limited activities so I started and finished this quilt in a week. It is part of my Covid-19 series. Bright and Cheery.

Scrap Heap

Show #905

MADE BY: Laura Rucker

QUILTED BY:  Laura Rucker

At a Linda Ballard Retreat, we were each required to bring scraps from our stash. The participants then went around the room exchanging those scraps. In the end we each made a quilt using each others scraps. Each quilt was made from the same blocks, but arranged differently, which made them the same but unique!

This garden sprouted from many, many hours of English Paper Piecing used to create the abundant blossoms. I first learned the craft of hand piecing these hexie flowers from the proprietor of Miss Maggie Mae's Quilt Shop in Estes, CO, on a road trip across the country a number of years ago. Now, my first great-granddaughter (due in June, 2021) will be the recipient of the garden in bloom. Piece O' Cake Designs.

I saw this quilt in a quilt shop newsletter and knew I had to make it. The quilt shop did not have the pattern so I tracked it down to a quilting magazine in New York. I called and the very nice person on the phone found the issue and mailed the magazine to me. The pattern was printed in the magazine "SIMPLY Moderne", the designers are Nathalie Legendre and Emma Coutancier. AND, it wasn't easy!

I have been on a paper piecing journey learning various techniques. Last year, the Foothill Quilters Guild had a Block of the Month paper piecing which fit right in with my journey. Each month we were given new patterns. Then at the end of the year, we had to design a quilt with the blocks we made. I chose the colors for this quilt with my son in mind since his favorite color is green.

MADE BY: Lynn Zacharias

QUILTED BY:  Lynn Zacharias

This was a Linda Ballard double mystery quilt. Meaning, I did not choose or know the fabric or the pattern when I started it. Fabric was from a brown bag, and the pattern was revealed on the third day of the retreat. Double mysteries are always fun.
