Art Quilts
Autumn Woods
Show #101 Judged
MADE BY: Marina Towne
QUILTED BY: Marina Towne
For many years I admired Noriko Endo’s “confetti” quilts and jumped at the chance to take a class on her technique, taught by Lenore Crawford. There was no pattern. I drew the roadway and horizon onto the background fabric, before adding the shredded fabric and tulle. The tree trunks were cut freehand and highlights were added with acrylic paint.
Click on the quilt itself for a bigger picture. Click on the "Closeup” link for a closeup of part of the quilt. Use your “back” arrow after viewing a Closeup or bigger picture.
If you are using a cell phone or a tablet to view the show and “back” doesn’t take you back to the quilt you were on, enlarging the original page just a little should fix the problem.

Lulu the Elephant
Show # 102 Judged
MADE BY: Betty Dillman
QUILTED BY: Teri Sartain
I was inspired by the beautiful patterns by Laura Heine. I decided to make Lulu for my granddaughter Emmy. I love the colors, a lot of Kaffe Fasset flowers. It is a cheerful quilt.
Looking Up
Show # 103 Judged
MADE BY: Julia Broughan
QUILTED BY: Julie Broughan
I had my grandkids and dogs pose for a picture. I enlarged it and made the fabric silhouettes. The fireworks are stitched in metallic threads, then painted over with fabric glitter.
A Bug is a Bug
Show # 104
MADE BY: Marylee Drake
QUILTED BY: Marylee Drake
Using techniques learned in April Sproule's workshop, I designed this pieced using the inspiration I found in a UC Berkeley magazine. It was for our "Page 37" challenge for 2019. It was an article on a variety of bugs and how they get their names. This piece was stenciled and stitched. And it earned a Second Place in the Challenge competition.

EXHIBITOR: Laura Rucker
MADE BY: John McCosker (age 10)
QUILTED BY: Laura Rucker
My grandson, John, was doodling on the computer with clip art and 3D printing. Once finished, he cut out fabrics and fused them in place. I quilted it for him and applied the binding. We hope the Gold whiskers show in the picture! What a pleasure it was to spend time with him as he decided, planned, and was finally pleased with the results!
Peace in Our Hands
Show # 107 Judged
MADE BY: Lynn Tubbe
QUILTED BY: Lynn Tubbe
Inspired by Jake Van Yahres’s design, and used with his permission, this art quilt speaks to the prejudices that have long colored our nation. I chose to leave some of the fabric strips raw and raveled, reflecting the emotions of this struggle. I added dozens of verbs -

This was from an embellishment workshop by member Sheila Green. The class opened my mind and horizon to the creative possibilities of self expression. I am making light of my struggles with golf with quotes and embellishments of golf items and trinkets.
Wedding and Wine
Show # 111
MADE BY: Melody Peters
QUILTED BY: Melody Peters
I began this quilt 3 years ago when my friends considered buying a B&B in wine country, but then didn't. I kept it and finished it for their wedding in October 2020 since they love going wine tasting.
Grace Under Pressure
Show # 112 Judged
MADE BY: Sue Serrano
QUILTED BY: Sue Serrano
This quilt was a challenge quilt for an art group to which I belong. The categories were "inspired by a song" and "graffiti". The main song inspiration was "Under Pressure" by Queen with a secondary influence of "A Day in the Life" by the Beatles. First of all, I love the literal and figurative double entendres in this piece. It is as much of a literary work as it is a quilt.
Jewelry Box
Show # 113
MADE BY: Marylee Drake
QUILTED BY: Marylee Drake
A fun piece made with shapes cut with the GoCutter. Lots of thread painting and machine quilting.
3rd & Townsend
Show # 114 Judged
MADE BY: Karren Lusignan
QUILTED BY: Karren Lusignan
My parents took many photos over the years. This one of the wheels and gears of a steam engine has always intrigued me. I knew I had to make a quilt from it. I designed the pattern using the Ruth McDowell technique.
